Privacy policy

Last updated 5 November 2026. Parents: there is a shorter page written for you at Information for parents.

1. Who we are

Wittlo is a free site of puzzles, word games, card games and vocabulary flashcards. It is run independently by an individual developer in India. You can reach us at contact@wittlo.com.

2. The short version

3. Who this site is for

Wittlo is for people aged 13 and over. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. See Information for parents.

4. What we collect and why

If you only play: we do not collect personal data through the pages and games. There is no contact form, no chat and no comments. We do count visits: see section 4a.

4a. Counting visits

Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits to the site: how many people came, which pages they opened, their country, browser and device type. It sets no cookies, does not follow you from one site to another, and does not build a profile of you. It is run by Cloudflare, the company that hosts the site, under its own privacy policy.

Google Analytics is off unless you say yes. The first time you visit, a small banner asks. If you click "Yes, count my visits", Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and sends information about your visit to Google: the pages you open, roughly where you are, your device and browser, and an identifier stored in a cookie. We have turned off Google's advertising features and its use of this data for ads. If you click "No thanks", or your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, nothing is loaded from Google. You can change your mind at any time with the "Analytics choices" link at the bottom of every page, and you can clear the cookies in your browser settings. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy, and may handle it in other countries, including the United States.

We use these counts only to see which games people enjoy and what to build next. They are not linked to your sign-in. The games work in exactly the same way whatever you choose.

If you sign in: signing in is optional and uses Google's own "Continue with Google" button. Google tells your browser your name, email address and the web address of your profile photo. We keep them only in your browser, so the site can recognise you on this device and let you into the Print, Make your own and Stats pages. They are not sent to us or to any server of ours, and we keep no list of accounts. While you are signed in, your browser loads your profile photo from Google's servers to show it at the top of the page. We do not receive your Google password. We do not send you marketing email, and we do not use your sign-in to follow what you play.

The sign-in button and the check of who you are come from Google, under its own privacy policy. The sign-in page loads a script from Google's servers, so Google can see that your browser opened that page. We do not load anything from Google on any other page.

Like any website, the company that hosts the files may keep standard server records, such as the address of the device that asked for a page, the page asked for and the time. These are kept for security and to keep the site running. We do not use them to identify or follow individual visitors.

5. What stays on your device

To work well, the site stores a small amount of information in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device:

If you sign in, your browser also keeps your name, email address, the web address of your photo and an expiry date (30 days) in local storage so that you stay signed in. Signing out removes them. Everything else in this list stays on your device whether or not you sign in.

The site can also keep a copy of pages you have visited so that they open without a connection. This copy is also stored on your device.

6. Cookies

We do not set cookies of our own. If you say yes to Google Analytics, Google sets cookies to recognise your browser between visits; saying no, or using the Global Privacy Control signal, means none are set. Your sign-in is kept in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie, and Google may set its own cookies while you are on its sign-in screen, under its own policy. If we ever add anything that uses cookies, this page will say what each one is for and how to refuse it, and we will ask first where the law requires it.

7. Do we share your data with anyone?

We do not sell personal data or use it for advertising. We do not receive your sign-in details, so there is nothing for us to share. The fonts and word lists the site uses are served from the site itself, so your browser does not contact other companies when you play. It contacts Google when you open the sign-in page, and to load your profile photo while you are signed in.

8. Advertising

There is no advertising on the site today. If we add it, we will update this page first, say which companies are involved and what they collect, and give you a choice about personalised ads where the law requires it.

9. How long we keep things

Anything stored in your browser stays until you clear it, apart from unfinished games, which expire after thirty days. Your account record is kept until you ask us to delete it. Server records kept by our host are deleted on the host's normal schedule: usually a short period of days to weeks.

10. Staying in charge of your data

You can remove everything stored on your device by clearing this site's data in your browser settings: your streaks, saved games, flashcard progress and sign-in will then start again from nothing. You can sign out at any time from the button at the top of every page.

We keep no account list, so there is nothing of yours for us to delete: sign out, or clear this site's data, and your sign-in is gone. If you have a question about what we hold, write to contact@wittlo.com and we will answer.

11. Links to other websites

We link to very few other sites. If you follow a link to another site, that site's own privacy policy applies, not this one.

12. Is the site secure?

The site is delivered over an encrypted connection, and because we keep no passwords or payment details, there is nothing of that kind to leak. Sign-in is handled by Google, so we never see or store a password. No system is perfectly safe, so please do not type personal details into any game or tool on the site.

13. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over personal data that a company holds about you, such as the right to see it, correct it, have it deleted, or object to how it is used. The only personal data we hold is the account record from signing in with Google (name, email address, profile picture, user number and sign-in times). To use any of these rights, or if you have a concern, write to us using the contact page and we will reply.

14. Changes to this policy

If we add advertising or payments, change how visits are counted, or collect anything more through accounts, we will update this page before that change goes live and say exactly what is collected and why. The date of the latest update is shown at the top of this page.

15. Questions

Questions about privacy can go to contact@wittlo.com.
