How to play Daily Chess Puzzle
Find the move that forces checkmate in two. A new puzzle every day.
The rules, step by step
- Look at the position. The side to move is shown, and the board is turned so your pieces are at the bottom.
- Find a move that forces checkmate on your next turn, whatever the opponent replies.
- Tap a piece, then tap a highlighted square. If the move does not force mate in two, you can try again.
- After the opponent replies, play the checkmate.
- Press Hint for the piece to move, then where it goes. Press Give up to see the whole line.
An example
A queen sacrifice often forces the king into a corner, so that a rook can mate next move. Look at checks first: moves that give check leave the opponent fewest choices.
Tips
- Start with checks, then captures. They limit the opponent most.
- Look at the opponent king: which squares can it reach, and what covers them?
- Ask what you would need to give mate, then work backwards to the first move.
