How to play Code Breaker
A secret number has been chosen. Use the clues from each guess to work out what it is.
The rules, step by step
- Choose a code of 3, 4 or 5 digits. Every digit in the secret code is different.
- Type a guess with the same number of digits, all different, and press Enter.
- You are told two things. ● is the number of digits that are right and in the right place. ◆ is the number of digits that are in the code but in a different place.
- Use the clues to work out the code. You have ten guesses.
- A new code is chosen every day.
An example
The secret code is 4 8 1 3. You guess 1 2 3 4.
1, 3 and 4 are all in the code, but each one is in a different place from your guess. That gives three ◆ marks. The 2 is not in the code at all.
So the clue is ● 0 and ◆ 3: three of your digits are in the code, but none is in the right place.
Tips
- Your first guess is just to learn which digits are in the code.
- Write down what you learn after each guess.
- If you get ● 0 and ◆ 0, none of those digits are in the code, so you can ignore them for good.
