How to play Nonogram
Use the number clues to fill in squares and reveal a hidden picture.
The rules, step by step
- The numbers beside each row and above each column give the lengths of the runs of filled squares, in order.
- A clue of "3 1" means three filled squares in a row, then at least one empty square, then one more filled square.
- Tap a square once to fill it. Tap again to cross it out, which means you know it is empty. Tap a third time to clear it.
- The puzzle is finished when every row and column matches its clue.
- You never need to guess: every puzzle can be solved by logic. Press Check to see wrong squares, or Hint for one square.
Where to start
In a line of 5, a clue of 5 fills every square. A clue of 4 must fill the middle three squares whichever way it sits.
Once a row has all its filled squares, cross out the rest of that row.
Tips
- Begin with the longest clues: they overlap the most.
- Work back and forth between rows and columns. Each filled square helps the other direction.
- Cross out squares you know are empty. It keeps your thinking tidy.
