How to play Snakes and Ladders
The family dice game. Race to square 100, climbing ladders and sliding down snakes.
The rules, step by step
- Choose how many players: you and one, two or three computers. Everyone starts off the board, before square 1.
- Press Roll the die. Your counter moves that many squares. The squares are numbered in a zigzag, starting at the bottom left.
- If you land at the bottom of a ladder (a green dotted line), you climb to the top of it.
- If you land on a snake's head (the dark end of a red curve), you slide down to its tail.
- You must land exactly on 100. If your roll is too big, you stay where you are and try again next turn.
- The first counter to reach 100 wins. The computer players take their turns by themselves.
An example
You are on square 2 and roll a 2. You land on 4, which has a ladder up to 14, so you jump ahead ten squares.
Tips
- It is all luck, so there is no wrong move. Just enjoy it.
- Watch the numbers on each snake and ladder so you can say "oh no" at the right moment.
- A game usually takes a few minutes, so it is a good one to play while chatting.
