How to play Solitaire
Move all 52 cards into four piles in the top row, one pile for each suit, built up in order from the ace to the king.
The rules, step by step
- At the top left is the pile of face-down cards. Next to it are the cards you have turned over. At the top right are four empty places where each suit is built, starting with the ace.
- Below are seven columns of cards. Only the last card in a column is fully visible, and the cards underneath it are face down.
- In the columns you build downwards in order, taking turns between red and black. A red 7 can go on a black 8. A black 6 can go on that red 7. Only a king can go into an empty column.
- Tap a card to choose it. The cards below it in the column come along with it. The places it can go are highlighted, and you are told in words where it fits.
- Then tap where you want it to go. Tap the same card again to send it up to the top row, if it fits there.
- When you turn over the last face-down card in a column, it flips face up by itself.
- When you are stuck, tap the pile in the top left to turn over a new card. When the pile runs out, tap it again to go through the used cards once more.
- You win when all four suits are built up to the king in the top row.
An example
Say column 3 ends with the 8 of spades, and you have just turned over the 7 of hearts.
The 7 of hearts is red and the 8 of spades is black, and 7 is one less than 8. So the 7 of hearts can go onto the 8 of spades.
Tap the 7 of hearts, then tap the 8 of spades. Now the card that was under the 7 of hearts may be free to use.
Tips
- Every game here can be won. If you are stuck, press Hint: it finds a real way to win from where you are.
- Press Undo as often as you like. It is only a game.
- Try to turn over the face-down cards in the columns with the most hidden cards first.
- Do not rush to put cards into the top row. Sometimes a card is more useful where it is.
- Choose "Three cards at a time" for a harder game.
